to Expert Proficiency

This course will start from the basics of airway and guide you through identifying a patient who’s airway is compromised to identifying the signs and symptoms of a compromised Airway and what is needed when you face a deteriorating airway as well the adjuncts available for use and how to use them. Airway anatomy will be discussed as well as how to identify an impending respiratory failure on anyone, the non invasive options and when to call for help. You have the opportunity to advance your skills even more by adding the advanced skills course once you feel comfortable with your basic skills. Both courses will have three forms a readable, audio and video demonstrations for your better understanding. You will be given practice questions at the end of each lesson to evaluate your understanding. Of course you can choose to do it at your pace at your free time or arrange for an individual or group lectures with one of our very qualified staff.

Module 1. Peripheral IV placement

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Know some of the indications and contraindications for starting a peripheral IV access
  2. Be able to demonstrate the technique for establishing a peripheral IV on a model.
  3. Know complications of starting a peripheral IV access
  4. Step by step guide on how to start a peripheral IV

Module 2. Standard ASA Monitors

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Know the difference between Spo2 and Sao2
  2. Know the meaning of a pulse oximeter tracing
  3. Know how the pulse oximeter works
  4. Know placement of 5 lead EKG
  5. Know options for indirect and direct blood pressure measurements.

Module 3. Airway anatomy

Goal and Objectives:

  1. Review upper airway anatomy
  2. Review the different components of the upper airway
  3. Review differences between pediatric and adult Airway
  4. Review innervation of Airway

Module 4. Airway adjuncts

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Know the Airway adjuncts and their use
  2. know indications and contraindications of the airway adjuncts
  3. Know how to insert airway adjuncts

Module 5. Mask ventilation

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Know indications for Mask ventilation
  2. Know one hand and two-handed mask ventilation
  3. Learning proper mask ventilation
  4. Troubleshooting mask ventilation issues
  5. Proper patient positioning and maneuvers to relieve tongue and soft tissue obstruction
  6. Steps during mask ventilation

Module 6. Head lift, chin lift, Jaw thrust

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Know indications for maneuvers
  2. Know contraindications for maneuvers
  3. Know appropriate techniques for maneuvers
  4. Know required types of equipment for use

Module 7. Capnography

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Know monitor for ventilation
  2. Know interpretation of capnograph
  3. Know the ideal shape of the capnograph
  4. Know obstruction of Airway as shown on the capnograph
  5. Know signs of hypo and hyperventilation as seen on the capnograph
  6. Know normal co2 levels
  7. Know uses of capnograph
  8. Capnographic confirmation of intubation ( co2 in 5 cycles of ventilation)
  9. Factors that increase co2 production

Module 8. Etiology of Airway obstruction, Assessment, signs, and symptoms of Airway obstruction

Module 9. Options for non-invasive ventilation

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Know different options for non-invasive ventilation
  2. Know CPAP vs. BIPAP
  3. When to use non-invasive ventilation.
